Versions

Track template changes and restore previous versions

Every time you save a template, Flint creates a version. This lets you track changes over time and restore previous versions if needed.

How Versioning Works

  1. Initial save creates version 1
  2. Each subsequent save creates a new version
  3. Versions are immutable—once created, they don't change
  4. Latest version is used by default in workflows

Viewing Version History

  1. Open a template
  2. Click Version History in the toolbar
  3. See a list of all versions with:
    • Version number
    • Save date and time
    • Who made the change

Comparing Versions

To see what changed between versions:

  1. Open Version History
  2. Select two versions
  3. Click Compare
  4. See a visual diff of:
    • Added fields (green)
    • Removed fields (red)
    • Modified fields (yellow)
    • Property changes

Restoring a Previous Version

Open Version History

Click Version History from the template editor.

Select the Version

Find the version you want to restore. Use the preview to verify it's correct.

Restore

Click Restore This Version. This creates a new version that copies the old one.

Verify

Review the restored template. Make any needed adjustments and save.

Pinning Versions in Workflows

By default, workflows use the latest template version. To lock a workflow to a specific version:

  1. Open the workflow
  2. Find the Fill Document action
  3. In template settings, select Use specific version
  4. Choose the version number

When to Pin Versions

ScenarioRecommendation
Active developmentUse latest (default)
Production workflowsConsider pinning for stability
Regulatory/compliancePin to approved versions
Testing new changesCreate test workflow with latest

Version Retention

  • All versions are retained indefinitely
  • No automatic cleanup
  • Very old versions may move to cold storage (slower to access)
